Mayor Michael Ludwig has promised thousands of Vienna residents a new windfall. But the money is not directly deposited in the account.
During his speech at the Vienna SPÖ club meeting, Vienna’s city leader Michael Ludwig announced a whole new relief package for citizens plagued by inflation. Several cash bonuses at once are intended to make housing affordable.
Because the government is running out of time to decide on a possible rent break and no solution is in sight, Vienna is now moving forward with its 5-point program:
A large part of the new bonus makes the “Viennese housing bonus,” endowed to 200 euros.
This is to orient itself to the “energy bonus 22” scheme. All one-person households with annual incomes of up to 40,000 euros gross and multi-person families with yearly revenues of up to 100,000 euros gross can apply for it.
The calculation basis for the “housing bonus” is the income in 2022, whereas for the “energy bonus,” it is 2021. Why is the gross annual revenue in 2022 used for the “housing bonus”? “In the event that the income situation may have worsened from 2021 to 2022 and not that these people then do not get a housing bonus,” it says on the part of the city.
Each household will receive a letter with a personalized password and make an online request with automatic completion. With the “Energy Bonus ’23,” there is an automatic payment for all who have applied for it by March 25.
Because the reference year is different, the housing bonus cannot simply be transferred to everyone applying for the energy bonus. In other words, everyone has to submit a new application. The city promises, however, that everyone will have the money “within a few days on the account.” The settlement is to take place as early as July.
